Salsa Contest at Captain Dan's 2009, Moncton, you think you can salsa? postponed to August 29th 9pm to 1am as for the hurricane
Get there early to find your dancing partner for the contest. Jury and Eligibility: The contest welcomes any dancer of any level as we expect the jury, the public in attendance, to judge based on artistry, or equivalently, grace or charisma while dancing.
That is, we expect the public not to value a couple that does more or more complex salsa steps higher than another one that lacks this technical aspect. At dance with Ricky, we believe that dancing is not gymnastics, not even rhytmic gymnastics. To support our view, you don't need to see what complex techniques musicians use to enjoy a song and hence value it higher relative to other songs.
To make it more accesible to any dancer, no value should be given to the way people dress during the contest.
Rules:
The two songs played by the DJ will be random and several groups will dance separately the same identical parts of two songs for the same amout of time if there is a large number of contestants. After each group is done the coordinator will stand close to each couple and the two couples with the "highest support, cheers, claps etc" will go to the next round. If there are ties, then either the coordinator will flip a coin or find from the public somebody with the appropriate knowledge and philosophy of dancing to decide on the winner.
So far the prizes sum up to 450 dollars in gift certificates from Captain Dan's, Bogarts, Rouge Resto Club, Respiro Dancewear and Dance with Ricky
